We have an excellent reputation for our ClubGolf programme and through this we have a coached well over 100 boys and girls, with most taking up our very reasonable membership offer. Not everyone wants or needs coaching, but it is there if you do. Here are some of the reasons you might want to choose to join our growing junior section for boys and girls.
Welcome to Clubgolf at Prestonfield! Since April 2012 over 100 children have had the opportunity to play and enjoy golf at Prestonfield, coached by our team of well qualified, enthusiastic coaches. The Club Golf team, now numbers 15 volunteer qualified coaches and administrators under the excellent, enthusiastic leadership of Elizabeth Taylor. Having done such a good job, there are now over 70 children who have joined Prestonfield Golf Club as junior members.
What is Clubgolf ?
The ClubGolf programme was launched in 2003 to provide every child in Scotland with an opportunity to experience golf through a really effective, well structured programme that provides development for both young people and coaches.
About the Classes
How Long Are They?
We ran weekly classes of one hour duration, in ten week blocks from April to August. The classes are taken by our PGA fully qualified volunteer Clubgolf coaches and to ensure you get lots of attention and support, we limit our class sizes to 10 children at a time.
When Does The Next Class Start?
The next block will start in April 2015. You can get more details of the CLUBGOLF – NEW SEASON – 2015 here or sign up if you want to be notified of future dates and for all our Junior News here. Contact us now and we will be in touch.
Our email address for further information is email@example.com.
What Do We Learn?
There is a structured programme that takes you right through from how to hold a golf club, how to play different shots, understanding the game, some of the rules and how you behave on the course.
The exciting thing is that we are now busy creating some follow on levels for junior players who are ready to get out on the course and play in competitions. Watch out for more details to come on this.
Where do the classes take place ?
We have a practice putting green and teaching area close to the clubhouse on Priestfield Road North. We also have another practice area out on the course at Peffermill Road.
Prestonfield was recently awarded an “Award For All” grant to build two par 3 holes on our practice area at Peffermill Road specifically for Clubgolf coaching. This is fantastic news for us and we are looking forward to these holes being ready for classes in Spring 2014.
Do We Get A Chance to Play on the Course?
Yes! Towards the end of your ten week block, the coaches will usually accompany the children on the course to play a few holes for a chance to put into practice what they have learned.
Do I Need To Spend a lot of money on golf equipment ?
No! Prestonfield GC will supply all the equipment you need so you don’t need to spend a lot of money. When you start we’ll tell you what you need to bring. We’ve found that previous Clubgolf juniors decide to get their own clubs once they know they want to continue to play and spend a bit more time on the golf course outwith the classes.
What happens after the block of classes ?
We are really keen to encourage our young golfers to continue practicing and playing outwith classes. We offer a very reasonably priced membership for juniors [link below to prices and benefits], so much so that over 70 have so far gone to become members of the club.
We also run classes for children of different abilities so they get an opportunity to keep on developing their skills and progressing alongside children of similar levels.
Most importantly the children and the coaches have fun.
I am interested – what do I do next ?
If you are interested email us on firstname.lastname@example.org, sign up for news or check back on the club website in February 2014 when we will have more details of the classes and any other news of what’s coming up.
