June 2016 Newsletter

Hello Ladies

The season is rushing by and hopefully you are getting plenty of golf while the weather is reasonable and the course is in such good condition. Don’t forget that Douglas McKenzie’s report on the website gives a regular course update.

2016  Ladies’ Champion – Rachel Smith

2016 Bronze Champion – Amanda Larter

Both ladies triumphed after hard fought matches against Suzanne Ireland and Barbara McQuillan, both 2015 champions. Congratulations ladies, and also to all those who competed. Our thanks also to the volunteers and supporters for a memorable day.

Tuesday 14th June  we said goodbye to Jim Halley, our club secretary, with a small presentation. We thanked Jim for being so helpful to the ladies’ section, and our best wishes go with him for his retirement.

Tri-Am 31st May proved a great success with fabulous wether putting everyone in good spirits. Thank you to the volunteers who worked so hard, those who sponsored holes, gave donations and contributed to the tombola stall groaning with goodies! The bakery stall manned by Liz & Matthew from Garvald proved very popular and I’m sure you will agree this should be repeated in the future. The grand total from the raffle, donations, tombola and bakery came to £548.

Tuesday 13th September – Senior Ladies’ Greensomes

Morison Millar Competition

It’s hard to believe it’s a year since we enjoyed our great success. We’ll be defending our title Thurs 7th July at Ratho GC. Tee times are 9.30 am & 2 pm. The team would value your support. I say “team” as our B team has been balloted out. It’s only 3 years since we were last in that situation, and one of those was when we were exempt as hosts. It’s most unfortunate and Liz Taylor, our rep, has raised this point with the MM committee. Our team will be Rachel Smith & Suzanne Ireland, Liz Taylor & Yvonne Blyth. Thank you ladies, and good luck to both you and the caddies!! Come on Prestonfield!!

28th June – Regional Medal Finals

Liz Taylor and Corinne Blyth will compete at Kilmacolm GC. We wish you the very best of luck ladies.

Tues 12th July – Lady Captain’s Day (12.30)

Format this year – a greensomes/gruesomes !!! (details on the day) over 16 holes with 3 clubs & a putter, followed by tea & cakes (new caterer in place by then!!!) Mulligans – prizes galore. Names on sheet in locker room in time for the draw on Fri 8th. No set cost – donation to Garvald welcome. Do come along for tea if you can’t manage to play.

New member – We are delighted to welcome Laura Calder. Laura has already been along to meet some of you and is playing towards a handicap. I know you will make her most welcome. I have a request also from Susan Reid, a lady who had lessons from Scott, for ladies to play a few holes with her as she is still a beginner.

Social evenings – the committee is looking into organising a couple of events for Aug/Sept and details will follow shortly.

Please note that the monthly Committee Meeting Minutes are now available on the website and also the ladies’ contact list is there.

I hope all our new members are feeling at home now. We’re delighted to see some of you “in the winners’ enclosure” already. We haven’t seen others for a while. If you don’t always want to play in competitions, just get in touch and we can fix up a friendly game for you.

Have a good summer everyone.
