Further to the fires at the clubhouses at both Machrihanish Golf Club and the Glasgow Golf Club at Killermont, there have been a few questions relating to fire and safety.

Prestonfield Golf Club have been very lucky over the years to have a number of Fire Fighters as members and we have been grateful recipients of their help in trying to maintain the best standards of fire safety.

Our house conveners for a number of years have been at the forefront of our safety, and not least in recent times with Tam Blackie, Peter Plenderleith and Ian Cowan all doing their best to address the major issue affecting clubhouses, electrical fires.

Before that there are many members and former members like George Smith and Dougie Hoggard, to name but two, who gave their insight and help to ensure our safety.

We have a triennial risk assessment performed and the next one is due in the Spring of 2019.

We also routinely ask the Fire Service to assess us and in 2018 Lorraine Bertram arranged for the Fire Service to come in and assess us.

We are currently working through a 22 point plan agreed further to that assessment in April 2018.

The more recent work saw the completion of renewing all the lighting fitments and the installation of emergency lights which Ian Cowan assisted by Liam McLaughlan completed towards the end of 2018.

Safety is an ongoing requirement whether it be advising staff, our lone worker policy, weekly checks of the fire extinguishers or the alarm checks.

There are too many items to list in one web post, but our progress on compliance as legislation changes, is ongoing.

All members are invited to inspect the documentation held in the office.

Many thanks for the questions and the help that our members have given us over the years in ensuring our safety.
