Farewell Chris

Chris Algeo our PGA Assistant Professional for the last couple of years is sadly leaving us at the end of this year to pursue a new career away from golf. Chris has been a fantastic member of the professional team during his time at the club and and I know he will be greatly missed by the junior section, the members, myself and possibly by his brother Dan!

We wish Chris every success with his future endeavours and remind him not to be a stranger to the club.

The rules are changing

January 2019 will see some modern changes to the rules of golf. These are welcome changes that are designed to help the game grow with easy understandable principles that encourage simple, consistent, fair situations whilst prompting pace of play.

We don’t expect every member to be experts on the rules, but like any game its good to know the basics, afterall you are refereeing yourselves out there!

Get to know the rules here

Most of the changes will take place under the general rules that govern the game and as such, will come into force on January the 1st 2019. So remember, by the time you are celebrating New Year the rules will have changed and that hangover will not allow you anymore than 3 minutes to look for that opening tee shot!

Other rules are designed to be adopted by each club as they wish. These are rules that we deem local rules, specific to Prestonfield Golf Club. These rules are printed on the back of the our scorecard and each club have slightly different adaptions. The general rules are written by the R&A in such a way to cover all terrains (links, parkland, dessert, etc) and most possibilities when playing, the local rules are more specific to our course.

Any changes to these rules will be slight (if any) and will take place before we go to print with the new scorecards. They will not effect any competition play before this time as we are on temporary winter rules. The temporary rules will of course be rewritten to comply with any general changes.

Wheels Away

Speaking of winter, it is fantastic to see so many members respecting the work the greens committee are trying to do this winter. Pitch marks are getting repaired and recorded weekly, orders and demand for winter wheels are high and more and more people are purchasing mats. So a big thank you! Its great to have members who are doing everything they can to help out and as a famous supermarket says… every little helps.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Have a great time over the holiday period from everyone in the professional shop!
