A huge thank you to Davie Lambert and his young assistant Alistair Gilbert as they proved themselves still game for the task of fixing our dilapidated wall around the putting green.

For those who have never sat on this wall or fallen off it, all the copes were loosened over time as the weight of the machinery on the green had pushed the green wider and forced many over the edge.

In short they were extremely hazardous whether members or visitors were sitting on them, tying shoelaces or worse still trying to climb onto the putting green..

Our two camera shy members have spent the last 3 weeks fixing the wall, but please dont spread the photo around as it may impact their jobseekers allowance..

This has been a major task, not least in giving the green an area to expand that didn’t put pressure on the wall.

They’ve now cemented it all in square and the last piece of the jigsaw is putting in the membrane to stop the weeds followed by the slate.

We’ve created a slate border which we know will narrow as the weight of the machinery over the next 5-10 years will push the green out, but at least there is a buffer and therefore no pressure on the wall.

Thanks again to Davie & Alistair for answering the call putting something back into the club.

“Ask not what Prestonfield can do for you, but what you can do for Prestonfield”, was the motto when I was a junior and its a joy to celebrate our membership.

We’re lucky to have a number of unsung heroes doing work for free and the whole community at Prestonfield Golf Club is very grateful to you all.
